In an agreement dated February 23, 1962 and signed by the township supervisors, the trustees of Philadelphia millionaire Nat N. Wolfsohn’s estate agreed to donate $40,000 to establish a library in Upper Merion with one condition; Township officials must name the library Wolfsohn Memorial Library. After outgrowing its headquarters on Town Center Road in 1989, the library moved to the township building. “In honor of the residents and taxpayers who are footing such a large bill, we should rename it,” said Supervisor Lydia Garcia, who urged her colleagues to approve the name change at a January 23 meeting. The measure was approved swiftly and without dissent. Not even library boosters opposed it.
