The first cornerstone for the Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge Park was laid in 1903, on the 125th anniversary of the evacuation of Washington’s army from Valley Forge. A few years later, the Wayside Chapel, a log structure, opened to the public as a national shrine for our citizens. This preceded the Chapel we know today.
