Here are some interesting facts from the 1960 report.
- Important ordinances included:
- Controlled land use patterns and subdivision regulations.
- Property owner or occupant requirement to manage their weeds or objectionable vegetation.
- Dog owner penalties for dogs running at large.
- Making it unlawful to hunt for, catch, take, wound or kill game of any kind….within 150 yards of any dwelling.
- Establishing sidewalks in the township.
- There were 4,075 assessed residences with a total assessed valuation of $18,413,200.
- Average residence owner paid a tax of $208.12 to township, county and school board.
- Organization Chart included a Civil Defense Director.
- The Police Department consisted of a chief, 4 sergeants, 9 patrolmen, 4 deskmen, and 8 crossing guards.
- The police department arrested 885 persons for traffic violations and 67 for criminal violations.
- Parks and Recreation Department maintained recreational areas of 66 acres and two public parks.
- The Building Inspection Department issued 372 permits which included permits for 163 single homes, 4 apartments, 13 commercial establishments and 14 individual buildings.
- The Planning Commission reviewed the proposed Township Library, Township Building and Sweetbriar Park.
- Plans for 1961 included:
- Construction of Missile Boulevard as proposed. [personal favorite.
- Commencement of work on the new township building.
- Commencement of construction of Walker Tract Recreation Area.
- Enactment of ordinances concerning: air pollution, shade trees, plumbing code, and revisions to sign ordinances.
- Installation of sanitary sewers in the entire Swedesburg area.
- Feasibility report and tentative schedule of progress in the general Swedeland area for sewer construction.
