Stewart Fund Hall was a prominent building in Upper Merion history. It was erected in 1810 on the NE corner of Rt 202 and Allendale Road. The building was named after William Stewart whose will established the Stewart Fund. The Fund was intended to improve the teaching of poor children at a schoolhouse to be erected on a lot of ground conveyed by William Cleaver. It was free for charitable and religious purposes, but for other uses a nominal charge was required. For approximately 150 years the building served as a school, meeting hall, Sunday school, library, community theater, police station and township building.
