In the late 1950s, just over the field from the old King of Prussia Inn, Morris A. Kravitz built a simple strip shopping center around an Acme supermarket. He called the shopping center (at DeKalb Pike and Gulph Road) the King of Prussia Plaza. King of Prussia Mall officially opened in 1963. The super-regional shopping complex includes three million square feet of retail space, more than 400 stores and restaurants, and over 1,300 parking spaces.
