Please join the King of Prussia Historical Society on Saturday, October 8th at 2:00 pm when Chris Kaasmann presents “Geocaching in King of Prussia” at Christ Church (Old Swedes) Church Hall.
Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. There are approximately 3 million active participants worldwide looking for more than 2.8 million geocaches with more than 830,000 active users in the U.S., more than 375,000 in Germany and more than 160,000 in the United Kingdom.
People geocache because it’s a way to explore the world around them with friends and family and because it’s fun. Geocaching is a game that reveals a world beyond the everyday, where the possibility of a new discovery hides under park benches, in the forest and probably a short walk from where you are right now (literally).
In Upper Merion Township, there are more than 75 geocaches waiting to be found, many of which take the seeker to historical locations. The purpose of this program is to introduce the game of geocaching and to highlight some of the caches within and surrounding the township. Geocaching is a great way to teach people of all ages about the history of our township.
Chris Kaasmann has lived in Upper Merion Township for 5 years with his wife, Michelle, and 3 children. He is a member of the Upper Merion Township Environmental Advisory Council and certified Tree Tender with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. During the day, Chris works for a small company responsible for managing product take-back and recycling for electronics manufacturers. When not working, Chris enjoys visiting National Parks, working out at the Upper Merion Community Center, playing ultimate frisbee, and exploring our township and surrounding areas through geocaching.
