On March 4, 1811, UM resident, Jonathan Roberts, began his tenure as a US Representative from PA’s 2nd Congressional District. In 1814 he began his service in the Senate, leaving on March 4, 1821. However, he remained active in politics and supported a variety of local initiatives. Roberts was instrumental in the Abolitionist Movement and an early advocate for the freedom of slaves. He died on July 24, 1854 at the age of 82 and was interred in the Roberts family cemetery. (Courtesy of the King of Prussia Historical Society)
