Please join the King of Prussia Historical Society at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 11, when Michael Shaw presents “A Mall and Its Legacy: The King of Prussia Mall”
Local author, historian, and friend of the Society, Michael Shaw, has been carefully researching one of the largest malls in America for his next book. The King of Prussia Mall is one of Montgomery County’s most recognizable landmarks and, in terms of leasable retail space, is the largest mall in America. It has long been a shopper’s paradise, and Michael is attempting to write the story of the mall from its opening in 1963 to today.
Michael was born 65 miles northwest of Manhattan in Middletown, NY, nestled in the picturesque Hudson River Valley. He gained a unique perspective of history from an early age. Both of his parents are former educators, who always appreciated and helped nurture Michael’s sense of history. Michael majored in history at Ithaca College, settling in Bucks County, PA, for a time before moving to King of Prussia in 1994. In 2013, Michael published “The Railroads of King of Prussia, PA: The Past Leads to the Future” which documented the various train lines that helped shape contemporary Upper Merion.
