At the Society’s May 10th meeting, Kate Hammond, Superintendent at Valley Forge Historical Park, will present Valley Forge National Historical Park in 2014 and Beyond. In 2016, the park will celebrate its 40th Anniversary as a National Park and the 100th Anniversary of the National Park Service. Attendees will learn what’s going on at Valley Forge at this exciting time as they prepare for the next 40 years of being a National Park. Lots of projects are coming to fruition including construction of the new trail bridge over the Schuylkill River, remediation of the Asbestos Release Site, construction of a new “Mini-Parade” and Student Pavilion, the reconstruction of one of the encampment era redoubts to serve as an interpretive exhibit, and new huts and interpretive media for the Muhlenberg area, as examples.
This free program starts at 2:00pm and is open to the public.
