As the Upper Merion Area School district ends its 2018/19 school year, here is some background on the old Belmont Terrace Elementary School building.
The Belmont School is situated in the northeastern section of Upper Merion Township on Anderson Road. It opened in 1958. It had sixteen classrooms that housed 500 pupils. It was modeled after the original pod-based Candlebrook Elementary School built in 1956.
As enrollment fell in the late 70s and early 80s, the school board decided to close it as part of a large reorganization.
It houses the district printing services, and at one time was partially leased out to Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network (PaTTAN). After the demolishing of the old Gulph Elementary school in 2016, it became the new home of the Upper Merion Area School District extended day program and also a private day care center.
