In July, 2019, the King of Prussia Historical Society received before and after aerials of the Valley Forge Golf Course property from Roger Thorne, our friend and former president of the Tredyffrin Easttown Historical Society.
Roger says
The following from 2019 is the 11th year that my friend Dave Nelson and I have flown together capturing images of the changing Main Line.
Last month we flew over the former VF golf course in K of P, and I could not recognize it. But I shot a number of images, and afterwards tried to match them up with other images from the past.
The first image below was shot in 1987, given to me by my friend Dan Kurkjian. The second image, taken last month from almost the same perspective, is unrecognizable.
Throughout the country, many golf courses are closing and municipalities are being challenged with balancing the desires of their residents to keep the open space with those from developers who seek zoning changes.
We thank Roger and his friends for their work to capture and share our local history. As Winston Churchill said, “Those that fail to learn from history, are doomed to repeat it.”
