Ms. Holstein, (Upper Merion’s unsung hero) served as an army nurse during the Civil War and wrote about her experiences in her book, Three Years in Field Hospitals of the Army of the Potomac. Anna was also a successful fundraiser and her efforts helped purchase Washington’s Headquarters as a memorial. The Holstein home still stands just south of DeKalb Pike on Henderson Road. Anna’s grave is located in the cemetery of Christ Church, Old Swedes.
