A community of residential homes, Colonial Village, originated in 1929. J. Howard Mecke, a realtor and well known developer, started building Colonial Village in 1928 in Upper Merion, Township. Mecke’s houses were noted for garages with rooms above. For the local residents, Mecke also built the Colonial Village Swimming Club, one of the early swimming clubs in Upper Merion not far from Martin’s Dam.
