BUSINESS MEETING
SPEAKER Greg Prichard: Keystone Markers
LOCATION Christ Old Swedes Church Hall
The Keystone Marker Trust was founded in 2010 to protect the historic keystone-shaped town marker signs of Pennsylvania. These signs, typically painted blue and yellow, are found throughout the Commonwealth and were installed starting in the mid-1920s by the Pennsylvania Department of Highways, the predecessor to PennDOT. Though many towns have adopted and cared for their markers, there was no central group to advocate for them until the formation of the Trust. In addition to documenting and restoring historic markers, the Trust has also begun making new Keystone Markers for the first time in about 70 years, which are accurate in appearance to the originals. One of the founding members of the Trust, Greg Prichard will speak about the history of Keystone Markers, their meaning, an overview of Keystone Markers found on the Main Line, and the work of the Trust to ensure that the markers remain symbols of Pennsylvania for many years to come.
Greg Prichard is a designer and historian living in Wayne. He is a graduate of Cornell University’s Historic Preservation Planning program, where he wrote his thesis on the historic train stations of the Main Line. A board member of both the Radnor and Tredyffrin-Easttown Historical Societies, Greg has worked on several local historic preservation efforts and is interested in utilizing technology to bring awareness to the historic features of our area. His business, Prichard Design & History Studio (designandhistory.com), was formed to inform people about extraordinary places through educational tools including interpretive signs. Among other locations, PD&HS’s signs can be found along Delaware County’s Industrial Heritage Corridor, the Radnor Trail, and Lower Merion Township’s Cynwyd Heritage Trail.
This will be a joint program with the Radnor Historical Society.
